Meet Kit book club

For the younger girls – under age 8 we started by reading two chapters of Meet Kit. It was fun for my six year old. For activites we talked about names – who we are named after and/or what the names mean. Then we also discussed nicknames – since Kit’s real name is Margaret.

We also talked about Kit making newspapers for her father. So our hands on activity was to create their own newspaper for their father. It was fun to see them draw and write about their day.
For a snack we had cupcakes – this was taken from when Kit and Ruthie went down and had cake at Kit’s mother’s garden party. Thank goodness for the garden party or I would not have known what to do. Besides, what young girl doesn’t love cake?

The following month we completed the other two chapters of the book. We discussed the Depression and the creativity it took to support a family. Then we discussed Kit moving up to the attic and how that was a sacrifice for her. But it was also a blessing because she could decorate it more her style. The hands on activity was for each girl to draw a map of her dream bedroom – any shape, any size, with slides or pools or anything they could imagine.
