Leg 6 - Amazing Race

Leg 6. Here is the first clue that I emailed out for everyone to figure out where to start.

So we all arrived at the farmer’s market area which once was a hotel in Flagler Beach. The next clue was a roadblock – Who has the beat?

For some reason I cannot find this clue so I will just tell you about it. It read – while safely staying on the sidewalk, one team member must dance for one minute along a busy road to entertain the drivers. It ended up being the whole team doing the dancing but frankly only one person per team ended up doing it.

From here they received the next clue…to go to Veteran’s Park.

It was awesome because not only does it contain a lot of historical info it also has a map so the kids had to navigate where to go based on the map.

Then it was game time!

We had played the over and under relay but instead of using water balloons we used a bowl of water. They had the option of using a bowl or balancing a water balloon on their face and covering a certain distance.

This turned out to be more challenging than expected. But we are super flexible so the kids just ate the jello. It is always fun trying things with food! I made jello and put it in small containers the night before and then I totally forgot to take it! But thankfully a friend said “why don’t we just go buy some?” Duh – I had not thought about that – they do sell pre-made jello. So Hailey saved the day!!

Then we bagged the planned games and had some fun. The kids threw water balloons at each other.

I did bring a cooler of water half full to fill up the bowls and the kids had a blast tossing that all over each other.

Unfortunately there was mulch under the swings at the park we were at so we decided not to do it with water balloons. Instead we used a beach ball and the kids tried to throw the ball at others while they were swinging. I am not sure if it was the momentum of swinging or the ocean breeze but that beach ball did not fly in an predictable pattern. It was fun to watch though.

Back to Back Water Balloon Relay Race from

It’s hilarious watching the kids as the try to gently hold a water balloon between their bodies without breaking it while racing to the finish line. It’s also a lot of good wet fun for the kids.
Style: Competitive
Type: Water Balloon Games
What You’ll Need:

• Water balloons (small thin balloons, not regular balloons) and a place to fill them up.
• Two containers to hold the filled water balloons. Make sure the container don’t have any sharp edges.
• If you want each team to have their own color balloons try Water Splashers Water Bombs Team Tubes Balloons. These high quality balloons come in two different colors which is great for playing team games. They also include two nozzles each with a very handy and easy to use shut-off valve. These are great for the end of a garden hose to kill the water while you tie off the balloons.

How to play:

1. Divide the kids into two teams and have each kid pair up with someone from their team.
2. Have the first pair of kids from each team stand back to back with their arms locked at the start line. Place a water balloon between their backs
3. On the word “Go!,” they must transport the balloon between their backs to the finish line (about 20 feet away). Then they have to maneuver themselves so they can deposit the balloon into the empty bucket.
4. If any pair breaks their balloon before they deposit in their teams bucket then they sit out and the next pair goes.
5. The game continues like this until each pair has had a turn.
6. The team with the most unbroken balloons in their bucket wins.

Water Balloon “Cold Potato”

This is the outdoor summertime version of that old favorite kids game, “Hot Potato”.
Style: Competitive
Type: Water Balloon Games
What You’ll Need:

• Water balloons (small thin balloons, not regular balloons) and a place to fill them up
• A container to hold the filled water balloons

How to play:

1. Bring a good supply of water balloons to the play area.
2. Have the kids sit in a circle (adjust the spacing according the age of the players) and pass the balloon from kid to kid. But here’s the catch — the balloon isn’t pass around the circle as in the traditional “hot potato”. It’s tossed across the circle.
3. If a player fails to catch the balloon, or it breaks that they’re out.
4. So the game doesn’t get out of hand, any player who intentionally tries to make a balloon explode in another player’s hand by throwing it hard instead of tossing is called out.
5. The last kid left in the game (even if soaked) is the winner.

Variations:

• If a balloon breaks, everyone who gets wet is out

Water Balloon “Drip”

Don’t be a Drip — Cool off in the fun summertime game that really isn’t about winning or losing. It’s how much fun you have cooling off!
Style: Non-competitive
Type: Water Balloon Games
What You’ll Need:

• Balloons (regular balloons — not thin small water balloons) and a place to fill them up (fill the balloons as you need them)
• A safety pin

How to play:

1. Before you inflate a balloon, poke a small hole in it using a safety pin.
2. Then fill it with water and tie the end to create a “time bomb” with a slow leak.
3. Players sit (or stand) in a circle and pass the balloon around the circle.
4. When the balloon runs out of water start another one going around the circle.
5. You can even have several balloons going around at one time.

Jump rope water splash
What you need: You need a jump rope, plastic cups, and water.
How to play: Give each child a cup filled with water. Designate two people to swing the jump rope.
The rules: One at a time, players attempt to jump the rope three times while holding their cup of water, trying not to let any water spill.
How to win: The player with the most water left in her cup is the winner.
What else you need to know: You can keep playing this game until only one player has water left in her cup.
